The dragon-man came closer. She could feel heat radiating off his skin as soon as he stood before her. He said nothing for a long while, and eventually curiosity got the better of her and Neve looked up at him.

"Do you know how long it has been since someone had the nerve to steal from me?" He asked. His voice was deep and hoarse, and inhuman. He spoke with precise diction, as though
speaking a foreign language and trying hard to make himself understood.

Neve considered pleading ignorance - that she hadn't meant to steal, she had just stumbled on this cave and was seduced by its treasure. But she quickly dismissed the idea. Dragons were known to be exceptionally clever. Trying to trick him would get her nowhere, except maybe fried more quickly.

"I'm sorry." Neve said, in her most innocent voice.

To her surprise the dragon laughed. "Of course you are." He purred, lifting one hand to cup her chin and tilt her head. "You got caught."

At his touch, the girl felt a surge of something electric run through her. She closed her mouth, pressing her lips together and swallowing hard. His eyes were searching hers, his handsome face calm and still.

"Please let me go." She said.

As she watched, a slow, wicked smile spread over his face. "No." He said. "I think I'll keep you."

This story gives 'Mother of Dragons' a whole new meaning.

Now, I bet you get the totally wrong idea about this story based on the fact that it says, "Reluctant Monster Breeding Erotic Romance". Yeah, I sort of did too. But when I realized the 'dragon' in question is in fact a really studly shifter that just maintains a few dragon qualities while in human form, I had to give this a try.

Call me sick, call me disturbed, call me a bit a freak--but ever since the movie Dragonheart I have had a thing for needing Dragons to shift into hunky men. Wrap it up in a pretty short quick read I got to giggle at while in bed late at night and I'm sold!

The pacing was done pretty well for a short story. The sex scenes were a bit amaturish for an erotica type story. The author is trying to push boundaries without actually going a big over the edge. I get that--I respect that actually. I thought her characters were endearing and I encourage this author to write a full length book set in this world because if I'm being honest--I was disappointed totally by the ending!

I mean, you don't even let the reader see her give birth to the egg?! Come on! All that build up and no paid reward!

I was shaking my head over here!

However, I did buy the rest of this authors dragon books and can't wait to read them! Ms. Martin has a clever way in which she spins a tale and she makes you actually like these quick little reads!

Nice short with a woman entering a dragon's domain with thievery in mind.

I did like that the author made this dragon shifter not entirely human in appearance, even when he was shifted to human. That one little detail made the story better for me.

It was a bit too short, but was good while it lasted.

Ripped off again, do not buy Kindle versions.

*sigh* Bought the rental version of this book on Amazon, because it was the same as the hardcover and thus not as heavy. Of course it does not include the all important access code which you need to pass any college class these days. So as a result I have just tossed another $80 down the proverbial drain.

Michael: But since you bought the kindle edition I do believe that it only comes with the book version for the kindle

As always, buyer beware, DO NOT BUY THE KINDLE VERSION OF THIS BOOK. YOU WILL BE SCREWED.

Perfect book for beginners in chem

Perfect book for beginners in chem. special features of the book eg skill builder boxes pose questions relating to the material in the chapter. These help in acquiring the necessary knowledge and helps understand the topic better. At the end of each chapter there is a summary of the concepts learnt, and many question types that ensure the necessary knowledge has been acquired. The language of the book is Easy to understand. Many illustrations are in picture form to help with visualization of what happens. The book also has a website where online one on one tutorials can be used to ask any doubts. This books is perfect because every other book will just introduce to the main topics but this book has every topic in chemistry introduced. This way the student gets to know which area of chemistry he/she is most likely interested in.

Definitely worth buying if you are looking for a book which covers everything you want in a clear understandable way.

PS I never took a chem course in high school. Right now I'm in uni and i'm majoring in mechanical engineering. I have chem course which is general chem. But because I had no prior knowledge of chem I bought this book to help me out get introed to all areas of chem and especially those I will need. So in the summer i went through the whole book solving every exercise that is in it. Now i find chem interesting (ty Nivaldo) !!

Sorry for such a long review but when it is about a perfect book, length shouldn't matter ;)

Why people have right/left hemisphere preferences.

This is a wonderful book and a really stimulating read. It's beautifully written and researched ( hundreds of references) and tells the story of the evolution of language from the time of its appearance among the earliest humans.
It shows how the overwhelming importance of speech has moulded the brain and it draws on evidence from the fossil record, DNA analysis, phases of reaching maturity, anatomy, experimental evidence and the greater or lesser role that genes play with respect to culture and learning.
The book has changed my way of looking at these things.

Right-handedness and language

Most people are right-handed, though with a substantial minority of left-handers: this is such a familiar feature of human existence that we rarely think about it at all (especially if we are right-handed), and now that schools no longer try to force left-handers to write with the right hand, the psychological and emotional problems that this once produced have become a distant memory. Michael Corballis, however, thinks about handedness a great deal, and has devoted a large part of his career as a professor of psychology to studying it.

Because we don't think about it much at all, we don't usually notice that bias towards right-handness is a specifically human characteristic. Although animals may prefer to do some actions with one foot rather than the other, they show no consistent bias. To find a comparable case we need to go as far afield as to parrots, which generally prefer to pick up bits of food with their left feet, while standing on their right.

I usually regard discussion left-brain and right-brain specialization as the sort of science that belongs in popular magazines, to be read, perhaps, while waiting for a dental appointment, but otherwise to be treated with the same disdain as signs of the zodiac. Unlike signs of the zodiac, however, lateral specialization of the brain has a perfectly serious aspect, and Corballis makes a strong case that strong handedness in humans is related to an apparently quite different special characteristic of humans, their capacity for language.

Have you ever been disappointed by God?

Have you ever felt like a failure as a Christian when God disappointed you? When God let you down?
What do you do when God doesn't live up to your expectations?
John the Baptist knew who Jesus was. They were cousins, acquainted with each other, maybe friends. Certainly God revealed Jesus in His glory when John baptised Him! Father, Son and Holy Spirit converge in a moment of spiritual manifestation.
But sitting in the third cell of Herod's damp, dark prison, day after day certainly didn't feel like deliverance. Where was this king? The powerful one? Where was the fire? Where was this Jesus?
If the "greatest [man] born of woman" had his questions, disappointments, frustrations, how much more might we have the same today? He knew Jesus face to face, as a man knows a friend.
Yet, his understanding was rocked by the God who answers many questions but rarely answers "Why?".
Edwards answers these issues, sort of, in an insightful, profound way. The book will lead you back to where you began but with a deeper faith and clearer insight toward this powerful, invisible God who will do what He will do.
"His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts." Thank you, Lord.

For every Christian who has asked God, "why?"

Wow! This is an amazing little book that presents the story of John the Baptist from a perspective I doubt that most people have ever considered! You will feel as if you are right there in the story with John and you will connect with him, not merely as a "hero of the faith," but as a real person. The story is a fictional account but it is based on the true story of John the Baptist from Scripture. In fact, it is more than just "based" on it because every element from the story here is consistent with Scripture and history. Gene is a wonderful story teller and has created dialoge and included historical elements to piece the story of John's life together in a way that introduces you to the real character. The story does not depart from Scriptural truth at all but actually will help the reader to see it in a clearer, more personal and meaningful light and apply it personally.
The message of this book will grip your heart and pull you closer to Jesus Christ. If you are struggling as a Christian, whatever your circumstance (be it sickness, emotional pain, depression, discouragement, or just feeling and wondering if God has forgotten about you or that He has not lived up to your expectations of Him... If you've ever cried out to God and asked Him, "why? Where are you? Why are You silent?") this is a remarkable book you need to read. It may change your entire perspective on suffering and give you strength and hope when all seems to be crumbling around you. I wish I could have shared this book with my father before he passed away. This book is not what you expect and it is not typical. Some people who have read through it have commented that it ends a little "dark." After reading it myself, I understand to some degree what they mean (though I wouldn't use the term "dark" at all myself), but sometimes life doesn't always have such a simple, happy resolve (at least to our human way of thinking). Sometimes we just have to bear our crosses and trust in a God we don't always understand completely.
Prisoner in the Third Cell is about a mind-renewal process concerning how we approach suffering. Sometimes this story gets a little deep and you have to think about it. When you're "going through it" it makes a lot more sense! Probably one of the most difficult lessons to learn through struggle and pain is that God's grace is really sufficient. In a world where so many televangelists tell you that all you have to do is give money and have faith and everything will be perfect, this book is a refreshing insight into the reality about suffering and true faith and how God's grace really is enough. In truth I have seen more people who have tried so hard to reach some high "position" of health, wealth and success by quoting this Scripture verse and that one and practicing positive confession until they're blue in the face and only wind up more discouraged, depressed, confused, angry and weary in the battle. This little book will open the reader's eyes in a new dimension of God's grace, love and purpose through enduring hardship and those seasons when we just can't understand why, and the heavens seem to be silent.
Gene himself is no stranger to suffering and brokenness and God has revealed much to this brother. Gene has such a tender heart for the Lord and this element of his life is so beautifully sensed in his writing. Highly recommended reading. In fact, all of the books by this author are quite good. Other good titles I found to be really a blessing were "A Tale of Three Kings" (get the video version of this book - much better seeing Gene himself tell the story) and The Highest Life.
4 Stars is my high grade for this title. I think I did not regard it as five only because it did kind of leave me hanging a bit at the end, but I suppose this was the point. Rather than just seek a simple answer, I need to learn the suficiency of God's rich grace. It's a contemplative resolve that's not so easy to swallow. I confess I wanted a brighter, simpler answer myself. I was left wondering, could there be more to it than this? But if you're going through some struggle or have a friend who is, this is a book that will be identified with and point you in the direction of grace. It's a great title, worth reading. It's relatively short and can be read in an evening or two.

Gene nails the issue of God's silent nature dead on. What more could be said on this matter after reading this book? Absolutely NONE. Gene wonderfully shows that there must be a "why" aspect in our lives. He writes that w/out the "why's", there would be no real inward transformation in our lives. I learned that the power of an unanswered question can truly change and transform something as evil and decietful as our hearts. Gene takes you from John the Baptist's "why" in prison to Jesus's "why have you forsaken me" on the cross. Very deep stuff here people. I particularly enjoy the way Gene transports the readers into the mind of the Lord as He walks through the corridors of time. After reading this book, you will never again ask God "why" w/out a slight understanding that sometimes silence is the highest way.

Good Recipes to Try

This cookbook contains a collection of Mexican recipes from appetizers, snacks, and desserts to main dishes including casseroles, soups, fajitas, enchiladas, and burritos. The chicken chilaquiles (a tortilla casserole) was good and my family enjoyed it. We also liked the tortilla soup recipe.

The recipes use ingredients that can be found in most larger grocery stores and can be easily adapted to lower fat or low-sodium substitutions or using canned versions of things like salsa instead of making it from scratch. Each main recipe has three or more variations that at times are nothing more than using a different meat or cheese or vegetable, so that's how the book lives up to the title of 500 recipes. There are also color photographs which I always like in a cookbook.

None of the recipes seemed that difficult so this cookbook would be suitable for cooks of any level. It would be a great gift for anyone who enjoys easy but tasty Mexican food.

After reading the other negative reviews about this book having factual errors or being mostly a history book, I wondered at first if I had the wrong book. There is no history in my copy, just recipes, and I haven't found any factual errors from what I've read so far so I'm not sure what those reviewers are talking about. There is a glossary of ingredients and equipment as well as a brief explanation of the differences in regional Mexican cuisine but it is definitely a recipe book. I've never been to Mexico so I can't say if the recipes are "authentic" or not, but the ones I've tried so far were good.

Great book for mexican cooking

The 500 Mexican Dishes provides 125 recipes for a variety of traditional Mexican dishes such as tacos, enchiladas and quesadillas to Mexican flavors on lamb, fish and steak. Each of the 125 recipes has four minor variations that tweak the item into a different version by adding a new flavor profile. Like all of the books in the series this provides excellent recipes that are customizable so if you are familiar with flavors it is easy to create your own variation. The book also provides a nice selection of desserts, drinks (alcoholic and non) as well as salsas to put on a variety of dishes and chips. We have made about a dozen of the 125 recipes and have not yet found any factual errors and in fact have been very pleased particularly with the pumpkin salsa and steak recipes. If you are looking for an all encompassing guide to Mexican cuisine this is a great place to get a start.

WTF happened, Ee?

I finished this about a week ago, but keep thinking "oh, I want to finish my book." I keep thinking this because this book was done so poorly that none of my questions have been answered. It is obvious that Ee wrote this under a severe deadline.
Penryn is suddenly a different character, obsessed with Raffe and not caring about much about all the things that made her character so awesome. At the 80% mark, things were so ridiculous, that I stopped reading for a day or two. Even on an airplane, where I always read, I played a stupid game on my phone instead. I finally decided to go ahead and finish it, despite how many times I rolled my eyes and thought "really? This is supposed to work in this situation... really?" My questions weren't answered.
Meh.

So Disappointed.

Nothing. That’s all I feel after finishing this series. Well, that, and disappointed. How did Ee go so wrong? She started out so strong and created such an interesting world with gutsy characters I loved and then it just fell completely flat.
I had been wanting to read this book series for so long. The premise sounded awesome, the covers were hauntingly beautiful, and everyone and their cat was raving about it. I barely managed to hold off reading them until the final book came out so I could marathon them. I couldn’t believe that halfway through the last book, I didn’t even care that much to finish the series.
Was it because my expectations were too high? Maybe? I don’t think so though. I was waiting for this huge grand finale, the Battle of Hogwarts, Katniss storming the Capitol, Percy fighting Kronos, and I got a talent show? What even? It was a bit lame compared to the rest of the series. It in no way compared to the gritty, dark, and epically badass scenes in the previous two books.
The first word that came to mind after I read the last page: safe. Susan Ee played it completely safe. A mildly entertaining final battle, mildly entertaining dialogue, mildly entertaining characters. Everything was mild. Even the couple of “sacrifice plays” that were made were safe. Safe and sacrifice are two words that should never go together when storytelling.
Ee went the safe route again by not really killing off any of her “good” characters. Even the couple she did kill off, I didn’t feel the least bit sad. (Not that I was feeling much of anything while reading this book.) Now, I am a bit conflicted about this critique because it makes it seems like I love when the best characters get killed off. I hate it when great characters die. I am pained when they die. I cry when they die. Harry Potter and Hunger Games left my tear ducts dry for weeks. And while I do hate it when authors kill off some of their best characters, I understand it. But more importantly, I think it’s magical when someone is moved to tears because a book character died. This character is fictional. They exist merely through words on pages and a fuzzy image in one’s head. They are nothing the least bit tangible. But when one is moved to tears over the death of a fictional character, it simply shows what an amazing writer that author is. How well they constructed that character and made them come to life and connect with the reader. That is true magic. While her first two books had strongly written characters that I connected with, in this book, I felt that connection severed.
Another problem with “End of Days” was this post-apocalyptic world was not fleshed out enough. I feel like Ee didn’t attack this apocalyptic world with enough ferocity as she could have. Apocalyptic and dystopian worlds are like a dead, decaying body. I want the author to cut it open and fearlessly display the rotten insides crawling with maggots. I want the author to reach in and yank out the blackened heart and toss it aside. I want the author to be my tour guide through the dark abyss where that heart used to beat. I want dark and gritty and cruel. And above all I want human. I want to see the dark underbelly of humanity. See humans at their worst; see humans at their best. Watch them fail; watch them succeed. Witness them tearing each other apart; witness them building each other up. They will either give up or give it everything they got. Some will give in to the darkness of the world, some will give in to the darkness in themselves, and some will do something extraordinary. Though there might be evil wizards or natural disasters or corrupt dictators or bloodthirsty angels from heaven above, there is nothing that will show the true horrors and beauty of humanity like darkness. And though that corpse is rotten and decaying, I want to see against all odds, that body be resurrected.
Sure the supernatural element was dark and scary and there was plenty of action, but in this last book, there wasn’t enough growth, heart, or humanity. All those aspects of the story remained stagnant from page one. And that corpse of humanity that was introduced to us in the first book was not resurrected, but merely given artificial life.

This book has been downgraded to a 2-star instead

It was a few hours after finishing this that it finally dawned on me. I'm not sure if it's just me, but I feel like Susan and I are just not in sync. She writes it with a certain flow and ending in mind, and I was expecting something else altogether.

If you've read my review for Angelfall, you could see I had dozens of questions. It's like jumping straight into The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies instead of starting with the first instalment. It was like that with Angelfall. As far as I could remember, there was no mention as to what sparked the Great Attack. But I let it pass. After all, it was only the first book and rumour has it there was gonna be five! I got to World After and while the questions remained unanswered, I wasn't too bothered by it cos I was just too intrigued by the gore. So I let it slide. I waited about one and half years for End of Days and was quite pleased to know that it's only going to be a trilogy.

And then I got this piece of .... of an ending. Boy, was I annoyed.

The last 60% of the book felt rushed. Like as if Susan just can't wait to get it over and done with. And honestly, so was I. The short chapters were the motivation to quickly finish it off. I hit the last page and went. WHAT THE FARKERY IS THIS?! We went through so much hassle and fights and battles and this is how it ends? I was expecting the REAL apocalyse. Not this half-assed thing. Heck I was looking forward to an actual battle between Raffe and his Watchers, and Uriel and his army since it was a trial by contest. And it became a blood hunt instead?!

There are just so many things I want to know. Like how the whole Great Attack come about? Why did Gabriel lie about Daughters of Men? How was Gabriel killed? Why did archangel Michael disappear? Even the love story was abrupt. Like I shared with a fellow member, a bunch of kisses and caresses doesn't account for true love and s*** man!

Conclusion: Nothing to say. Know that it at least inspired me to write such a verbose review.

Amazing!

I have read many books on body language, psychology, and communication. This book condenses amazing amounts of material into one little book. The most astounding thing is that the information is presented in such an entertaining and visual way that I have read and reread this book many times, each time learning something new. After reading just two books in the Wooden Books series I decided to buy all of them and after having read almost all of them now, I must say I am very pleased.
