Where else will they not tell you if a "type 2" hybrid is a parallel hybrid system?

I purchased this as the only available prep guide for the L3. I am a 100% trained GM dealer tech. I had taken the introductory L3 exam. As
you have read elsewhere the practice questions have no relevance whatsoever. The book came with 2 typed sheets of answers to these ques-
tions (changed since printing). Yes I can say I learned a little from the book. You have to read between the lines but this book can help to give
you some understanding of ASE's poorly written and drawn test reference (type 1,2,3 hybrid- terms they made up). I have passed the test since
but I fully credit the intensive week-long GM course I took after my first attempt. This book alone will get you similar results to just answering B
to all questions but if you have exhausted all other options and have $30 to blow consider it.

Just took and failed test. Book covered almost nothing that was on the test. Left giant holes in what i needed to know. Test questions in back of book were wrong and some didnt even make sense. Do not waste your money on this guide.

Life is an ongoing, neverending process of self-improvement and enlightenment. While we can be given the best advice and offered the most valuable lessons over and over again, it takes a readiness in ourselves, an open heart and mind and a willing spirit, to be receptive to those lessons. And, to be truly effective, we need be not only ready... but conscious of the lesson learned and applied.

A good friend who has earned my respect with her ability to maneuver through her life with serenity and acceptance, even while learning the toughest lessons, recently recommended Hendricks' books to me. I value her advice, and so I approached the Hendricks' bookshelf with high expectations. I found many books on the shelf, written by both Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks, and with this volume as my introduction, I expect to be reading several more.

Hendricks has probably not told me anything in this book I don't already know. We must love ourselves before we can truly love another. Anger denied does not go away. Moving through life and its choices by default rather than thoughtful and considered decision is guaranteed to end in disaster. Choosing love partners by chemistry alone can only mean heartbreak. We get what we expect. Negativity in attitude and expectations magnetically draws to us more negativity. If your life is not what you want it to be, guess what, it's you who is at the wheel. Yes, I knew all of this.

I knew it, but I have too often failed to apply these sound, common sense lessons to my own life. I suppose there is something in all of us that feels the irresistible impulse to put our hand in the fire even when we have been told, over and over again, it will burn. Unfortunately, nothing is so effective a teacher as pain.

But by the time I picked up this book, I was ready to listen. I was, you might say, fully conscious of these wisdoms and ready and willing to apply them at last. I almost feel a little silly stating how my mood and attitude improved by just reading this book. It sounds rather simplistic, doesn't it? Then again, we humans do tend to overcomplicate our lives, don't we?

I feel confident in recommending this book to anyone... but only with this note: if you are ready to steer through your life with conscious intent, you'll love this book and its sensible advice. A New Level of Clarity

Over the last few years, I have read an assortment of relationship books with loads of great strategies that combat a wide array of issues. When I encountered the book "Conscious Loving" by Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks, I was amazed by how different the book was. Gay and Kathlyn were communicating at a more fundamental level that bridged the gap between examples and strategies.
When "Conscious Living" came out, I eagerly pounced on it to see how much more I could piece together. On my first pass through the book, I was deeply moved by the quantity and depth of "aha, that's why" connections I was making with my life and my prior readings. This book did not disappoint me since it was working at the fundamental building block level that I first encountered with "Conscious Loving". After reading the book for the third time, I'm still in awe at how much clarity Gay brings to the journey of life. If I had to sum it up, I would have to say that I was left smiling at the profound beauty of life. I was also pleasantly surprised and deeply moved by the spiritual connections I made through reading the book.
The book follows a natural progression where Gay takes you from a great personal and historic introduction through the five required lessons followed by the inner shifts and outer moves that create a conscious life. The second half of the book deals with conscious solutions to some of the most crucial areas of real world life. I found the book to be chock-full of interesting examples and inspiring snippets of wisdom. One of my favorite snippets was "We argue for our limitations, and, sure enough, we get to keep them."

An Aha! Experience

I have read several of Gay Hendricks books and each is a masterpiece. He surprises me every time by having so much to offer. Reading 'Conscious Living' is an enlightening experience. What touched me deeply is its simple profundity.
Its evident that Gay writes from a depth of authentic experience. He blends the sublime with the practical, the mystical with the earthy, the miraculous with the ordinary. I am confident that this book will become a landmark in the human evolution to embrace its own divinity in ways that are magical.
As I read it, I was in an inspired space to act out of integrity in ways that create enduring change towards greater inner joy & success in the outer world.

A Spokane college graduate searches for wealth and fame in LA but finds only a string of dead-end jobs and outlandish individuals in Jans’ witty debut drama. In 1987, Jack Fitzpatrick’s plans to be rich and famous are off to a good start. Beverly Hills talent agent Alain Michaels tells Jack that he can find him work as a model in California. But when the modeling gig doesn’t pan out, Jack’s more determined than ever to make it on his own instead of returning to Spokane. He stays with a friend and runs through a few temp jobs, finally finding success as a bond broker. Jack makes good money at bond firm Freedom Capital Markets, but he soon realizes that he wants to share it with someone.The author’s Bukowski-esque tale has an ordinary protagonist immersed in extraordinary circumstances. Jack’s escape from his Spokane roots, for instance, is sublimely epitomized by Mrs. Pohlkiss, an affluent neighbor who looks down on him and who’s immediately on his mind at the slightest sign of failure. Likewise, Jack, while certainly not na�ve, is faced with obstacles he’s never considered—complacency or boredom with a job and a revolving door of co-workers, some of them friends who leave too soon and a shady few who are considerably less friendly. Jack’s nonchalant narration manages to take the bite out of the story’s darker bits, like the protagonist’s eventual arrest and incarceration, as well as the toilet humor. Other characters, too, have their comic moments: Noah’s wife, a millionaire by inheritance, still demands that her husband get a job. Jans wisely saves details about Jack’s dog until later in the story. Jack’s goal continually changes throughout the novel—he wants fame, success, and maybe even a wife—but what he truly craves is finally answered in a satisfying coda that’s both over-the-top and a little endearing. An engrossing but tongue-in-cheek drama that, even at its most dramatic, will leave readers smiling

Foreword Reviews- Freaks I’ve Met is an entertaining, raucous novel with a bit of a lesson at its heart. In Freaks I’ve Met, Donald Jans delivers a riotous bromance centering a recent college graduate with a heart for, and potentially even of, gold. Irreverent prose and wild situations make for entertaining reading in a novel that, despite the unapologetic vices of its narrator, works its way toward a revelation. All twentysomething Jack wants is out of Spokane, but he’ll take a fortune and riches with his escape if they’re available. Chasing promises from a sleazy modeling agent, he winds up in Los Angeles, where dazzling promises dissipate with disappointing speed. But Jack is determined to grab onto some late-eighties wealth, and so charms his way into work as a stockbroker, where morals are always secondary to the sale. This is a tale replete with sex, substance abuse, dishonesty and people-using, but somehow the narrator, Jack, maintains charm throughout. Jack’s likability is all the more surprising when one considers the situations he gets himself into—landing friends in trouble with their indulgent mothers, unthinkingly rattling off racial stereotypes while dating girls meant to expand his romantic horizons, and flirting with illegality on the trading floor. But even at his most shameless and vulgar, there’s an “aww shucks” quality to Jack’s speech that’s appealing. Jack cultivates na�vet�, seemingly determined to grab ahold of whatever glitters, consequences be damned: “I needed a job like … the stockbroker. He was a pretty cool guy with a huge house and a pool, and he sure seemed to be home an awful lot to enjoy it. I guess that was mostly during his FBI investigation, but still, his job seemed perfect.” Jack’s crash landing can be sensed coming long before the scene for it is set; but it seems Jack knows it’s coming, too, and is resigned to enjoying the ride for as long as it lasts. The comedic flavor of Freaks I’ve Met is certain to appeal to those who remember the fecklessness of youth with any degree of longing, just as Jack’s comeuppance is likely to serve as a reminder of why such free-wheeling is not always well advised. There’s a degree of warning in this endlessly fun novel that removes it from the realm of strictly guilty pleasures. There’s so much fun to be had here that readers are unlikely to begrudge Jans a bit of final cheesiness. Freaks I’ve Met is an entertaining, raucous novel with a bit of a lesson at its heart.

Full of wonderful, situationally hilarious and always fully x-rated confessions of ...

Our author shows us through a world of the macabre (mainly L.A.) as the main character, Jack, struggles to hang on while the very plan he set in motion tests his grit. Full of wonderful, situationally hilarious and always fully x-rated confessions of young man set out to ensure the proper lighting for his bright future. I couldn't put it down once I opened it. Reminded me of the dark humor I always enjoyed in Palahniuk, with much more chuckling and far less retching. Honest and true in his message, the Mr. Jans passes along great advice while keeping his reader more than entertained.

Hilarious!

I wish I could give this book 10 stars! It was hilarious and insightful, and the author no doubt drew from his own experience in the bond market. The book could have a subtitle "Expose of the Bond Market." (And all the stock brokers and financial finaglers on Wall Street are crooks without a conscience as well.)

Great metaphors had me laughing out loud. And it's quite an education for those who are unfamiliar with how the bond/stock market really works. Do read this book!

Last but not least, there were NO grammatical errors. Big congratulations to the author! (Well, there was one but it was in a quotation, and it's the way most people "talk.")

It's a must read!

The fresh point of view of the character regarding subjects that we now consider clich� makes for an incredible fun and fast paced reading. The author has managed to capture a life experience and turn it into a palatable story full of witty metaphors and quick turns. This books, albeit being a first, has all to offer and makes us want for more to come.

From Zero to Improv

My improv group got off the ground because of this book.

I live in a small midwest town of about 18,000 people. There are no training centers, theaters, or even really any comedy around me for several hundred miles.

After expressing my interest in improv to the Upright Citizens Brigade, I was fortunate enough to receive a few copies of this book before it was released. I assembled a group of friends who had an interest in comedy (but no idea what long form improv was), and we started training using only this book to guide us.

I should reiterate that for emphasis: no one else in my group had ever seen long form improv before we read this book.

The UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual is absolutely amazing. We went from never having done improv before to performing a Harold (one of the most universally taught long form structures) at UCB Chelsea in 2.5 months. All from this book.

I've read a lot of instructional books for various things in my life, but none of them have even come close to being as easy to use as this book. It lays out the fundamentals well, provides exercises for every step (so that you learn by application), and guides you through learning all the way to the end.

If you're interested in learning improv, or even if you're a grizzled veteran of the improv stage, I can't recommend this book enough. It should be a staple in every improv library.

This book is awesome. If you're new to improv, start here. Even if you're a bit along, this is a great clarifier. Everything is distilled into clear language with straightforward examples.

The book deals first with initiating the scene. This means Yes Anding to build the base reality of the scene. You know, answer Who What Where, don't deny your partner, try to add information.

It then deals with Game. Once you know what the reality of the scene is, you find the funny thing--the Game. What is the game? How do you spot the game? How do you play the game and heighten? Also in this section is using character, walk ons, and useful hints as well as things to watch out for.

Finally, there's coverage of openings and, more importantly, the long forms. Monologues, straight up suggestion, living room, etc. These are just different ways you start off a long form, generate ideas to draw from. The Harold is covered in detail and other forms are explained in another chapter.

It ends with advice on performance and rehearsal.

Get this book. Get Improvise by Mick Napier. Get Truth in Comedy. Get Johnstone's Impro. That's a real good start. And then practice, rehearse, have fun, make your partners look good, and improvise!

Reading this was like learning a magician's secrets

Improv is something I've always been in awe of but have been too afraid to try because it seemed like you had to be a naturally hilarious super-genius to do it. I had read "Truth in Comedy" years ago (UCB's book is a billion times better) and knew the basic concept of "yes, and...," but it still seemed like there would be so much pressure to keep coming up with one original, funny thing after another on the spot. I didn't realize how many underlying rules existed to make things work. The idea of finding and then playing "The Game" of a scene makes so much sense. I guess I realized that there were patterns before, but now when I watch improv, I can see that everything really does have a structure and focus. Now that I've read this book and know basic terminology and concepts, it makes watching improv or sketch comedy even better because I can identify all these things. Because of the book, I have more of an appreciation for improv as an artform (does that sound lame?), and I'm finally ready to try it for myself. I start my first improv class next month in DC (god.. I wish I lived in NYC or LA), and even though I'm a generally anxious person when it comes to new things, I'm not all that nervous because I feel like this book has me very well prepared. I'm just ready to have fun now, and if I end up not completely sucking at it, I have a feeling that I will be returning to this book a lot. Besser, Ian, and Walsh-- THANK YOU!

Fanon explained

Fantastic review and critique of an important but overlooked philosopher by an eminent professor. Must read for anyone interested in understanding the effects of colonialism on prejudiced and marginalized peoples. Fanon's life and work have a tremendous ethical importance for today's polarized society and Prof. Gordon's text has excellently provided a clear explication of the thinker's views.

About the Author
Bruce L. Bowerman is a professor of decision sciences at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He received his Ph.D. degree in statistics from Iowa State University in 1974, and he has over 37 years of experience teaching basic statistics, regression analysis, time series forecasting, survey sampling, and design of experiments to both undergraduate and graduate students. In 1987 Professor Bowerman received an Outstanding Teaching award from the Miami University senior class, and in 1992 he received and Effective Educator award from the Richard T. Farmer School of Business Administration. Together with Richard T. O’Connell, Professor Bowerman has written 11 textbooks. These include Forecasting and Time Series: An Applied Approach and Forecasting, Time Series, and Regression: An Applied Approach (also coauthored with Anne B. Koehler); The first edition of Forecasting and Time Series earned an Outstanding Academic Book award from Choice magazine.

Richard T. O'Connell is an associate professor of decision sciences at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He has more than 32 years of experience teaching basic statistics, statistical quality control and process improvement, regression analysis, time series forecasting, and design of experiments to both undergraduate and graduate business students. In 2000 Professor O’Connell received an Effective Educator award from the Richard T. Farmer School of Business Administration. Together with Bruce L. Bowerman, he has written seven textbooks. These include Forecasting and Time Series: An Applied Approach and Linear Statistical Models: An Applied Approach. He is one of the first college instructors in the United States to integrate statistical process control and process improvement methodology into his basic business statistics course. He (with Professor Bowerman) has written several articles advocating this approach.

This is a textbook about statistics

This is a textbook about statistics. If you are buying it, it probably isn't because you're all like, "Oh, this book looks totally awesome. I'm going to get a copy and read it on the beach." More likely, you are a student and you have no other option. That being said, it is laid out in a logical manner and each chapter builds upon the last. The most useful sections are those that show you how to apply the concept being discussed in Excel. I kept mine rather than selling it after the class because the Excel sections are so useful.

Very comprehensive and informative statistics text

This is an excellent text book for beginning Statistics students as well as the more advanced.

The first few chapters are simple and a nice introduction to the subject. It then slowly builds up to the more advanced chapters, culminating in the chapters on multiple regression (chapter 14), model building (chapter 15), and time series forecasting (chapter 16).

These three chapters are not likely to be included in an introductory course in statistics, but are however of great interest for students who have had some statistics exposure to the subject already and wish to find out more. They are not easy chapters, but very interesting. A lot can be learned from them.

Chapter 17 is one of my favorites, as it goes into detail of process improvement, including some history. It describes statistical process control (SPC) and the advent of six sigma companies, complete with their success stories. It is a very real chapter that brings home the importance of statistics in general.

Particularly commendable is the attention this book gives to several different statistical packages, mainly Minitab and Excel (with the MegaStat add-in), explaining in detail the various variables displayed in those packages and their meaning.

This book, however, is not for mathematical statisticians, as in the later chapters a lot of the formulas are not presented. Instead the presence and meaning of the variables used is indicated and their calculation referred to the statistical packages. As an example, whereas the calculation of the coeefficients of the least squares line is presented for single variable regression, for multivariable regression it is not.

This is not, however, criticism. At this point, the calculations of the variables becomes so complicated, that presenting it will likely put off the audience for which this book is intended. Anyone interested in the complete calculations (mathematicians only) should consult a mathematical statistics book instead.

Overall, I think the book is a great read with lots of relevant examples and good explanations.

Terrible book: focuses on examples and not on general concepts

Absolutely terrible text book. Chapters are organized by examples and then describe the statistics formulas and procedures within the example. I have another statistics text book by Lind, Marchal, and Wathen that covers the exact same material for MBA level statistics, but clearly explains all concepts before moving on to examples. One specific example where this text is terrible, is one chapter fully explained several concepts, but all of the examples were of a positive value. On a test in the class, the professor asked what the significance of a negative value was. Thankfully he covered it in lectures (and it was covered in the Lind text), because this text didn't describe it at all!

About the Author
The author has a technical background, and qualified as a teacher through London University. He has been investigating the connection between seismic and sunspot phenomena since 1964, and since retirement in Australia has continued with his observations.

Brilliant simplified explanation of our planets responses

I highly recommend this book for the armchair as well as the student astrophysicists as well as USGS scientists. It belongs
in the libraries of colleges as well as highschools. His explanations of all electromagnetics involved has eased my
mind concerning any earth responses to planetary positions. I highly recommend it to anyone concerned about December 21,
2012.
