Good Resource for Most Basic Financials Needs
By Opsdoc
A very excellent resource for a financial end-user of Dynamics AX 2012 R3 or anyone who needs an occasional reference in a fairly simple AX 2012 R3 implementation.
I was, however, hoping for a resource serving the needs of a more experienced AX financials decision maker in a more complex environment.
I found areas such as Fixed Assets very well covered. However, areas such as the integration of Organizational Hierarchies to the CoA/GL with multiple legal entities seemed very thin.

ERP with Microsoft Dynamics AX for mere mortals!
By adnan baloch
These days businesses have to rely on ERP to help their management make the right decisions at the right time to stay ahead of the competition. Lack of ERP can lead to a lot of stress for the managers as they struggle to make sense of the data generated by the different departments in a business organization. ERP ties everything together neatly and presents a comprehensive overview of the daily business activities leading to better decision making. The author of this book starts from the implementation phase of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 and takes the readers step by step through everything. The importance of the implementation team as well as the application consultant in the success of ERP is clearly laid out. Screenshots help the readers become familiar with the interface of Dynamics AX. To get started with Dynamics AX, it is imperative that the opening balances are created based on the closing balances of the legacy ERP system. The entire process is laid out in great detail to assist the readers in ensuring a smooth transition to Dynamics AX. Reconciliation of general ledger and bank account are given ample coverage. Accounts payable and accounts receivable get their own dedicated chapters. Plenty of screenshots and diagrams serve to delineate these important topics. The next chapter is all about fixed assets, from their acquisition to depreciation to finally being disposed. Financial directors need to protect their company's cash situation by utilizing cash flow management to predict the company's future cash requirements. This is explored in a seperate chapter with a practical example demonstrating cash flow forecasting. The inventory costing strategy makes or breaks a company's bottomline. This critical topic is explained with particular emphasis on inventory management and integration with general ledger. The concept of segmented ledger accounts in the context of financial dimensions to get a deeper analysis of the transactions posted in general ledger accounts, forms the basis of an entire chapter. The final chapter delves into the rich variety of financial reports offered by Dynamics AX. Readers tasked with bringing the power of Dynamics AX into the financial realm of their business organization will find themselves thoroughly satisfied by the practical approach taken in this book by the experienced author.

Useful book on exploring the financial management practices with AX 2012 R3
By Robert Gyorodi
This book starts from presenting the importance of financial management part in an ERP implementation, discussing the various roles that contribute to a successful project.
Next it goes through the main concepts related to financial management with AX, starting with the General Ledger, explaining the usage of main accounts and the newly introduced shared financial data concept.
It continues to explain the integration and basic usage patterns of cash and bank management, accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed assets.
What I really like with this book is the explanation of how is the cash flow management integrated and configured for a really useful insight into the status of the business.
Other areas that are covered include working with cost management, the really helpful explaining of the usage of financial dimensions and the reporting possibilities of AX.
Aside from some minor inadvertences between examples in the text and the related screenshots and some best practices that are not too well explained, as a responsible for a Microsoft Dynamics related university module, I have found this book useful even for students with non financial background.
